STORY OF THE SONG:

I am WOMAN

One night I had a dream…

​

Before I tell you about this dream, I should say that all of my life I have had music in my head.  Thousands and thousands of them.  Songs that I write, music that I write, etc.  Some of the songs are complete.  Some of the songs are just fragments of a song like a phrase or a chorus or a melody. 

​

They are my own personal soundtrack.  They help me cope with the daily stresses of life.  They ensure that I am happy.  They are where I deal with my emotions, especially the more intense ones.  Because they are so personal, I have never shared them with others.

I certainly never expected to share them with the world.  But then I had this dream.

 

So…

One night I had a dream…

​

In the dream I was in a huge space filled with light.  I couldn’t see the edges of this room or hallway.  It seemed to go on forever.  Everywhere I looked there was golden and white light pulsating, glowing and sparkling.  I was alone in this space, but not lonely.  I was immensely happy and at peace.

​

In the background, almost as if it was a radio playing in the background, I heard this voice singing this melody.  I couldn’t place the voice.  It sounded so beautiful.  I had never heard the melody before.  It was so strange and yet oddly comforting.

​

The voice was singing this chorus of “Oooo oooo”’s.  It was so pretty. 

​

I couldn’t place the voice yet at the same time it was oddly familiar.

​

So there I am walking through this space, completely at peace, jamming to the radio.

​

Then, out of the blue, my grandmother appeared.

​

She came up on my left side out of nowhere.

​

She put her hand on my shoulder, looked me right in the eyes, and said…

​

“You should write a song about women and the things that make us powerful.”

​

And then just like that she disappeared.  Vanished into thin air.

​

The second she said that to me, it was like a rush came over me.  Lightning and warmth coursed through my heart, spirit, and soul.  It was almost as if I became awake.  I don’t know how else to say that.

​

Then after she vanished, I listened to the radio some more.  I had this weird realization that the voice in the radio was mine.  It was trippy.  That I was the one singing the oooo oooo’s.

​

It was so strange, extremely vivid, and yet awesome at the same time.

​

I woke up right then.

​

I picked up my phone and sang the oooo oooos chorus into my recorder.  And thus the song was born.

​

After I recorded the chorus, I sat down and wrote the verses about my mother, grandmothers, etc.  It is a song that reminds us of our connection through the ages back to the very first woman.

​

The song “I am WOMAN” is a song about the true power of women:
